On the day
before, Grissom’s world was as it should be. He was working with Sara; they
were getting along well, the awkwardness and tension that had plagued their
relationship since the lab explosion finally seeming to disappear.
On the day
it happened, she smiled at him before she left for the night, her gap-toothed
grin as ever warming his soul, and he said good night, not knowing he was
really saying goodbye.
On the day
after, he listened to Catherine’s sobs, saw Warrick’s red eyes, Nick’s set jaw,
and he finally figured it out.
But it was
too late.
