They sit side by side on her kitchen counter.
A plant in a pot, seemingly lush and verdant, filled with promise. Only she knows that underneath, the leaves are turning brown. No-one’s fault; she never did take time to look after it.
A rose in a glass of water, an impulse buy when grocery-shopping after work. Petals a pleasing shade of red, the same red as her cheeks, leaves the same green as Warrick’s eyes when he presented it to her.
Plant and flower, past and future.
Warrick’s hand leading her to the bedroom.
Her lips curled in a smile.
