Shivers run the length of Warrick’s body, and he’s not sure if they’re his or Sara’s. “That was too close,” she mutters, and he holds her tightly, burying his head in her hair.

She pulls away suddenly, her tear-stained face making something in his chest throb painfully. “If you ever do that to me again,” she tells him fiercely, “I swear, I’ll kill you.”

He almost laughs, but the memory of cold metal against his skin banishes the desire. He knows she’s right. This one was too close.

So he pulls her closer and lets her chase the memory away.
