Notes: For the first kisses challenge.

When Warrick kisses her for the first time, Sara knows that it will not stop at kissing. From the moment that his lips meet hers, she knows that it will end with scattered clothing, sweaty bodies, gasping breath.

She knows that, and from the look in his eyes right before she closes hers, she knows that he’s thinking the same thing.

She knows too, what people will think about them; that this is a rebound thing, two shattered people clinging to one another for comfort… or something that might pass as comfort. They’ll tilt their heads and purse their lips and click their tongues as they mutter about her missing Grissom and the disintegration of his marriage, and they will think they know everything about the two of them.

They will think that, and they will be wrong.

Because they won’t know about the months of easy companionship and friendship that have lead to that first kiss.

They won’t know about the talks they’ve had – long, fraught conversations – where they’ve talked about their changing feelings, wondered if it was worth risking what they were for what they could be.

They won’t know how her pulse quickens at the mere sight of him, how all he has to do is look at her a certain way – hell, look at her any way – to have her breathless with wanting him.

They won’t know how gently his hands cupped her face, how he seemed to move in slow motion as he closed the gap between them.

They won’t know how he gave her every opportunity to back away.

They won’t know that she nearly did.

But nearly isn’t enough, and when Warrick kisses her, Sara forgets about everyone else. There is only him, only them, and what the rest of the world thinks doesn’t matter.
