Summary: The picture is ragged around the edges.
The picture is ragged around the edges, with a distinct crease two-thirds of the way along, Zak and Kara on one side, Lee on the other. The obvious symbolism isn’t lost on him, makes a bitter smile come to his face. She’s always been between them, whether she knew it or not, and one thing that Lee’s profoundly grateful for is that Zak never knew of his less-than-brotherly feelings for Kara. Because as much as he might have wanted her, cared for her, once he found out about her and Zak, he tried not to let his mind go down the “what-if” path.
He couldn’t compete with his brother, not for her, even if there were times he wouldn’t mind trying.
Now Zak is gone, and he wonders if there’s any way he can compete with his ghost.
