Daddy

Martin's spent his whole life trying to make his father proud of him, ever since he was a child. He's never managed it, but he keeps on trying.
He does that until the day that they meet for dinner and he introduces him to Samantha. He's shocked by how cold his father is to her, is more shocked by what he hears when he calls him the next day.
"She's not good enough for you."
He hears the words, remembers the hurt on Samantha's face, and something in him cracks. "You bastard," he says, slamming down the phone. "I'm through."
