One of the biggest differences between them, Cameron knows, is their attitude to the seasons.
He hates being cold, can charitably be described as a hothouse flower – though he knows that Penny prefers “pain in the ass about cold weather.” The warmer the better as far as he’s concerned, and he’d happily live someplace that had sun all year round, dreams of retiring to the Caribbean, Australia, anywhere where the skies are blue and the sun is hot.
Penny, on the other hand, is a winter baby, and the slightest hint of a snowfall – even the mere promise of the same – has been known to make her positively giddy with delight. The slightest excuse and she’ll be outside, catching snowflakes on her tongue, making snowmen (with his hat and gloves, never her own), even making snow angels like a little kid.
He thinks it’s cute, but he’ll never tell her that, because it’s far more fun to make her blush when he teases her.
Even the cuteness, though, isn’t enough to make him love the winter.
Until she walks down the aisle towards him, her dress as white as the snow outside the church, white cloak drawn around her to emphasise the darkness of her hair, the blue of her eyes, the red of her lips. She looks like the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, and when she stands beside him, hands her bouquet of white roses to her bridesmaid, he thinks that winter isn’t so bad after all.
