"So, there's a thing in the book." Carol looks blankly at him, so Charlie continues. "About how the assistants, including me, are supposed to have gone to a séance on your birthday last year."

Carol's eyes widen as she makes the connection. "And you're worried…"

"That someone's going to find out what really happened."

She shrugs, tries for nonchalance. "We're two consenting single adults who went home together…it's no big deal."

He dead-eyes her, scepticism personified. "Yeah. Right."

She reaches out then, takes his hand in hers. "It's just between us Charlie," she whispers.

"Yeah," he sighs. "That's the problem."
