“Tell me a story Daddy,” Will’s daughter begs, clambering up on his knee. Big blue eyes that he can’t say no to look up at him expectantly, and he grins, launching into her favourite story about Will the turtle and Josh the hare.

Halfway through the story, he knows that they’re not alone, but he doesn’t look up.

By the end of the story, she is fast asleep. Only then does he meet his wife’s blue eyes.

“The slow and steady turtle wins again?” Donna asks, and Will shrugs.

“It’s her favourite.”

Her fingers entwine with his. “Not just hers.”
